Colleagues, I am pleased that our team of authors, reviewers and editors have worked hard at getting this first issue of our journal into publication. It was just over a year ago that about 90 of us gathered at George Fox University in Newberg Oregon for the last CCTE conference. At our closing plenary session, there was a strong sense that we wanted to further the work that we have done together by building connections between conferences. This first issue of the ICCTE Journal is the result of a journey of exploration that began over ten years ago, and hopefully will allow Christians who are involved with teacher education and related fields to build their networks, share their insights, research findings and encouragement with one another.

This is a scholarly effort and the articles presented here represent the hard work of scholars in producing, critiquing and refining their thinking about what it means to be a Christian involved with the work of preparing and supporting educators. However, this is an effort of the heart, as well. The bonds of fellowship and the sharing of blessings across time and many miles have been enjoyed by a number of us who have participated in CCTE events over the last decade.

About our name; at the conclusion of our meetings at George Fox, it was proposed that the CCTE moniker might be enhanced by adding the “I”, reflecting our desire to involve an international group of scholars and teachers in our efforts. Therefore, we’ve selected the International Community of Christians in Teacher Education as the name of our loose association and The ICCTE Journal for this publication.

About this issue: I’ve invited several CCTE pioneers, Haro VanBrummelen and Dan Elliott, to collaborate on an article that reviews how this group got started and how scholarhip among Christians in techer educaiton was nurtered at past conferences. In addition, we’ve got six peer-reviewed articles in this issue. I have appreciation for our reviewers. Each manuscript was reviewed by three reviewers. Many of our reviewers worked with two manuscripts, which is quite a commitment. I also have been blessed by two wonderful colleagues who have served in editorial roles. I extend my appreciation to our consulting editor, David Robinson, who has served as my chief encourager and support in dealing with conceptual and publication issues. And to my colleague and friend, Sean McKay, who serves as our technical editor, I am deeply grateful. without him, this would not have been a reality. Finally, thanks goes to Jim Worthington, the Dean of the School of Education at George Fox University, who has been a great friend and supporter of the journal and our efforts.

Please keep in mind that this is a work in progress. We do not have our systems totally in place yet. I will take personal responsibility for typos and lack of quality. Please, let me know what we can do to improve the way that the journal is reviewed, how it appears and functions for the reader and other concerns that you have. A nice feature of an online journal is that it can be updated if needed. So, if we have mispelled your name, done some drastic edit that needs to be corrected, failed to credit work, or other issues, please inform me and we will work at making amendments to this issue, along with preparing for the next. The next issue should be out in December. Currently, we are projecting two issues a year, however, if the number of submitted manuscripts warrants it, we can move to three issues a year. Please consider submitting a manuscript. Also, we have need for additional reviewers and would really like several copy editors. If you have interest, let me know.
